My library is considering text messaging to answer our Ask a Librarian <\/span>questions. For those libraries already using text messaging, how are <\/span>you implementing this service?<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n

From the research I’ve done thus far it looks like most libraries are <\/span>doing one of 2 things:<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n

1. Subscribing to Mosio’s Text a Librarian OR<\/em><\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/em><\/div>\n
2. Receiving and responding to text messages from a library <\/span>owned cell phone or smart phone<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n

<\/em><\/div>\n
In your experience, what are the positives and negatives of these two <\/span>options? Any success stories you’d like to share? Stories where it <\/span>went horribly wrong? Has anyone else implemented a different method of <\/span>texting in their library?<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n


<\/em><\/span>Also, are set hours for providing the service better than leaving it <\/span>open to the library’s hours of operation? How have your patrons <\/span>(specifically students and faculty at universities) responded to the <\/span>service? Did it require a lot of marketing by the library?
